Mule Deer Foundation Donates Over $257,500,

Ensuring the Future of 77 Shooting Teams in Mule Deer Country

Salt Lake City, UT— August 1, 2013 — Partnered with MidwayUSA Foundation, the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) has recently completed a national fundraising effort through its local chapters donating $257,500 towards youth shooting programs. The donation was made to the MidwayUSA Foundation’s Scholastic Shooting Trust (SST) and divided among 77 high schools, universities and other SST programs in 15 MDF active states.

MDF sees the importance of investing in the future and passing on these shooting traditions to the next generation of sportsmen and women. MDF shares the shooting, hunting and outdoor traditions through its M.U.L.E.Y. youth shooting program along with other educational initiatives.

The Mule Deer Foundation chapters participate in a program called “Adopt-a-Team” which helps to build relationships with local teams in their area and also educate them on mule deer and what MDF is doing for the future of mule deer and black-tail deer. Mule Deer Foundation’s President and CEO, Miles Moretti said “With this being the third year of the Adopt-a-Team program many MDF chapters have begun to build great working relationships with the shooting teams and the teams and the chapters continue to support each other.”

MDF is one of the key conservation groups in North America working to restore, improve and protect mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat. MDF acknowledges regulated hunting as a viable management component and is committed to recruitment and retention of youth into the shooting sports and conservation. Most recently, MDF developed a shooting program specific to youth, known as – M.U.L.E.Y. (Mindful, Understanding, Legal & Ethical Youth)

The SST is a mission of MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc and was started by Larry and Brenda Potterfield in 2007 to provide funding for shooting sports education to public and private high schools, colleges, universities and club teams.
